About Us
The Birmingham Regional Emergency Medical Services System (BREMSS) is administratively a component of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Health System) with policy direction provided by a Board made up of representation of local governments, hospitals, physicians, nurses, emergency medical services personnel (EMSP) and other EMS provider groups from throughout the seven-county region. This seven-county region is located in north-central Alabama and encompasses the counties of Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby, Walker, and Winston. BREMSS is responsible for overall coordination of and improvements in the pre-hospital emergency medical care system within these seven counties and the subsequent city jurisdictions.
BREMSS works with all components of the Emergency Medical Services System, which is inclusive of over 200 Emergency Medical Services (EMS organizations), 15 hospitals, over 2500 EMSP’s, 9 trauma centers, 11 stroke center hospitals, 8 STEMI hospitals, over 80 different municipalities, and many different 911 agencies.
The Trauma Communications Center is a central communication facility with the capability to constantly communicate with all pre-hospital providers and hospitals that have been designated as trauma centers, stroke centers, and regional STEMI centers. The TCC’s capabilities include the ability to immediately and directly link the pre-hospital providers to the centers.
TCC is the central hub for EMS services to receive the most up-to-date hospital ED status and refer patients to the most appropriate facility.
Provides service to emergency medical services personnel (EMSP), trauma, stroke and ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) hospitals, aeromedical and the EMS system by linking all together based on patient needs and availability of trauma, stroke and STEMI resources. Records and retrieves trauma system data for quality improvement purposes. Communicates hospital divert status, assists with mass casualty incident patient destinations and assists EMSP with on-line medical direction coordination. May provide services statewide.
Minimum Qulifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Currently licensed, in good standing, as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certified as paramedic.
Currently certified with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
Salary Range: $16.48-$25.93
